Excerpt:

After finding food, Kiran and Jace dressed and left the old farmhouse, both dressed nearly identically in faded denim jeans and flannel shirts, boots and hats. The journey was mostly done in silence as both men were lost in thoughts of what was to come. Jace still had no real idea what part he was supposed to play, but he was choosing to trust Kiran, even though he honestly couldn’t tell himself why. Kiran was silent for much of the same reason, though unlike Jace, he was feeling confident he was finally going to beat Amitiel at something. This changed the closer they got to the small pub in the middle of nowhere. It reminded Jace of the ones he used to hustle at, and it made sense to him that this was the type of place where things would go down. The fact it was only a few towns away from where he did his hustling meant he’d likely run into some familiar faces too. This should be fun.

Just outside the pub, Kiran grabbed Jace’s elbow and forced him to stop. Jace spun towards Kiran, blinking in confusion, “What?”

Kiran stepped closer, one hand on Jace’s elbow, the other cupping his chin, “I need to be sure you are ready for this. I do not know exactly what we will be walking into, but I have my suspicions it will not be anything easy.”

Jace stared, dumbstruck, into Kiran’s eyes. He saw the hesitation and worry lingering like a raging storm in the depths of those deep brown eyes. If an angel was this freaked, what the hell chance did he have?

He leaned in and rested his forehead against Kiran’s. “Whatever happens, I’m ready. Obviously, I’m not afraid of dying.”

Jace flashed a teasing grin, much to Kiran’s dismay. Kiran let out a low, feral growl and took Jace’s bottom lip between his teeth, tugging and letting go. “No, you are not, but I will not allow that to happen now.”

Jace shrugged and averted his eyes, unable to face the intensity in which Kiran was staring at him. He mumbled, just under his breath. “Not until I finish the job at least.” Then turned and started back towards the door.

Kiran’s grip on Jace’s elbow tightened, “Not even then, Jace.” He let the subject, and Jace’s elbow, drop there. They had work to do.

About CC Strix:

As a young child, CC would often immerse herself in books, loving the ability to lose herself in the magical worlds. As she grew older, she was no longer content reading about magical worlds and instead started to create her own. The paranormal called out to her and she was helpless to ignore it. Vampires, were creatures, angels, and demons all have stories to tell.

CC believes that love has little to do with what’s in one’s pants and as such, her stories contain couples that fit in all walks of life. She gave up pretending she had control of the voices long ago, it makes them all much happier that way.

When not writing, CC can generally be found cursing the state of Idaho and its numerous attempts to kill her with the pollen bombs, reading her ever-growing to-be-read pile of awesome books, dabbling in graphics or procrastinating in a number of other ways.
